BYRON DOG GUIDE
Dogs are a very important part of many families. For us, being able to enjoy your holiday with them makes it all the better. Luckily, Woolacombe has to be one of the most dog-friendly locations in the UK!

Local Beach details and restrictions
Dogs are welcome on most parts of the beach. Parkin Estates ask that you follow their regulations to ensure everyone can enjoy the beach. The map above shows the zones and dates where dogs are allowed.
Located at the far end of Woolacombe Bay, Putsborough Sands has a restriction on part of the beach from April-October, but the rest of the beach is dog-friendly. We usually walk along the dunes and back along the beach, a lovely 5 mile round trip with a buttie from the beach café which is open throughout the year. There is a toilet block in the car park.
Barricane Beach is a small beach next door to Woolacombe which allows dogs between October and April, but they must be on a lead between the months of May and September. It has an excellent café open from Easter until September and they regularly have curry nights where you can take along your own beers. Check Facebook for details.
The Coast Path
The Coast path is fabulous to walk along. Dogs will need to be on the lead occasionally for cattle, road walking and caution near the cliffs. We recently walked from Ilfracombe back to Woolacombe – a 4 hour walk of 7.5 miles with some strenuous hills, well worth it for the views. There’s a regular bus service between Woolacombe and Ilfracombe.
Your stay at Byron
The nearest area many owner’s dogs use for a late-night trip to the toilet is the gravel path that runs along the rear of the property. This is accessed by either; turning right out of the car park onto Sandy Lane, and right again; or via the stairs to the left of the apartment door, down to the ground floor, exit to the right and up a few steps on the left. Please pick up any poop and don’t forget your key fob to get back in. Place any waste in the refuse area in the car park. There’s plenty of grassy areas and bins down Sandy lane before the beach.
You can also make use of the outdoor shower when coming back from the beach to clean those paws with the handy doggy shower handle!
don’t forget your pooch
Your pooch will love Woolacombe Beach and all the beautiful walks in the local area.
