Byron’s pledge to the planet
North Devon is very proud to be as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a UNESCO biosphere reserve. At Byron, we want to protect our environment as well as welcome visitors to this unique area. The UNESCO Biosphere celebrates life by recognising the connections between people and nature and we encourage the reciprocal relationship by creating environmental guest awareness and choosing our products and partners with the environmental impact in the forefront.
Our current efforts include;
- Recycling packs are included within every guest stay to encourage environmentally friendly waste disposal. We offer onsite bins and recycling storage organising a weekly collection with a local recycling service.
- We only partner with local businesses that work within their own environmental policy. This includes all hampers and booking upsells working to reduce as much plastic as possible in all products offered!
- We work with and support Plastic-Free-North-Devon to reduce our use of plastic in-house and encourage our guests to do the same! The tourism industry is renowned for having an effect on coastal plastic, so we are to reframe our effect! Guests are asked to provide a voluntary contribution to Plastic-free-north-devon at the point of booking with all donations going towards keeping our coastline clea. - Byron Woolacombe Holiday Let’s have invested in re-tasked litter pickers from Waterhaul. Our Retask the Mask litter pickers are made in the UK, with the plastic components made from 100% recycled PPE sourced from the NHS in a plight to reduce waste products. Want to get involved? These litter pickers are available to sign out from the facilities reception between 9-5pm every day! You can join one of the many beach or park cleans that are regularly held, look our for members of our team! You will get a warm glow from clearing up the planet and a bit of exercise too!
Byron is keen to continue improving what we can do, look out for updates to our efforts!
