The Alchemist Spa at Woolacombe Bay Hotel

Perched above one of North Devon’s most famous stretches of coastline, The Alchemist Spa sits at the heart of Woolacombe Bay Hotel and offers one of the most complete spa experiences in the South West. From the moment you step through the doors, the outside world fades away and you find yourself wrapped in warm, calming surroundings designed entirely around your wellbeing.

The treatment menu draws on some genuinely exciting product lines, including TEMPLESPA, Natural Spa Factory and The GelBottle. Whether you fancy a deeply grounding full body aromatherapy massage, a results-focused CACI facial using microcurrent technology to firm and lift, or the rather wonderful rasul ritual, where heat, steam and mineral-rich mud combine in a twinkling tiled chamber, there is something here to suit every mood. The Gua Sha facial technique is a standout for anyone carrying tension in the face and neck, working to release tightness and encourage lymphatic drainage in a way that leaves you looking genuinely rested.

Beyond treatments, the thermal suite is worth arriving early for. The sauna, steam room and hot tub are all included with spa day bookings, as is access to the heated indoor swimming pool. The relaxation suite gives you space to drift between treatments without rushing. Everything is set up to encourage you to slow right down and stay a while.

The spa is open daily from 10am to 7pm and is available to both hotel residents and day you. Booking ahead is strongly recommended, particularly in summer when spaces fill quickly. The hotel sits right on South Street in the village, so you can easily combine your visit with a stroll on the beach or a meal at the hotel restaurant.

Sometimes the best thing you can do on a North Devon holiday is simply stop, breathe, and let someone else take care of you for a few hours.
