Founded by Sue Dawson, who has been teaching movement and embodied practices for over 35 years, SGP Sense Greater Peace is one of the most considered and experienced yoga and Pilates offerings in the whole of North Devon. Based on South Street in Woolacombe, just a few minutes from the beach, SGP runs a boutique reformer Pilates studio alongside yoga classes, beach yoga sessions, sound baths, breathwork and meditation.
Sue’s teaching draws on an enormous breadth of training including yoga, Pilates, kinesiology, somatic movement and sound healing. The result is classes that feel genuinely nourishing rather than simply demanding, rooted in the idea that movement should support you rather than grind you down. Reformer Pilates sessions use the spring-based resistance equipment that offers a deeply effective workout for core stability, posture and strength. Yoga classes range from flowing vinyasa-style sessions to more restorative and meditative practices, and beach yoga on the sands at Woolacombe is a particular highlight when conditions allow.
Private one-to-one sessions are available for those who want more personalised attention, and the studio regularly runs workshops, retreats and wellness day events throughout the year. If you are here for a week and want to build a little movement practice into your holiday mornings, SGP is an excellent place to do it. The studio is small and welcoming, with the kind of atmosphere that makes newcomers feel immediately at ease.
Booking is through the SGP website at sensegreaterpeace.co.uk, where you can see the current class timetable and upcoming events. The South Street location is central to Woolacombe village and walkable from most holiday accommodation in the area. Reformer Pilates equipment is available on a limited basis, so booking any reformer sessions ahead of time is strongly recommended. The studio is open year-round, and the quieter months have a particular quality here, with smaller classes and more space for conversation and connection.
Start your day at the studio and you will find everything else feels just a little bit better.
