Bluefin Charters

Bluefin Charters is a name that carries considerable weight among the sea fishing community of North Devon and beyond. Operating out of Ilfracombe harbour with a purpose-built charter vessel, the team runs day trips and extended sessions targeting the rich variety of species that inhabit the rocky reefs, wrecks and open ground off this extraordinary stretch of the Bristol Channel coast.

The skipper’s local knowledge is exceptional. Years of fishing these waters have given the team a deep understanding of the seasonal movements of the major species and the specific marks that produce the most consistent results. On a typical Bluefin Charters trip, you might find yourself targeting pollock and coalfish over the wrecks, working a tide-swept reef for bass and bream, or drifting across open ground in search of turbot, plaice and the large smoothhound sharks that visit these waters during the summer months.

The boat is set up specifically for serious fishing, with good shelter, reliable navigation equipment and enough deck space for everyone to fish comfortably without getting in each other’s way. The skipper and mate are on hand throughout the day to help with rigging, unhooking and advice on technique, and the atmosphere on board is convivial and good-humoured, whether you are a highly experienced angler or someone trying boat fishing for the very first time.

Tackle and bait are available to hire or purchase on board, though experienced anglers are welcome to bring their own equipment. A full complement of rods, reels and terminal tackle is available at very reasonable rates, making the trips accessible to anglers who do not want to travel with heavy gear.

Half-day trips, full-day charters and private bookings are all available, and the team can advise on the best time of year to target specific species. Advance booking is recommended throughout the season.
